The branch of science that deals with disorders of hearts and parts of the circulatory system are termed as Cardiology. It includes treatment and diagnosis of failure of heart, diseases oriented to valves of the heart, coronary artery diseases and electrophysiology. Physicians or Medical aspirants who specialize in this field of heart disorders are termed as Cardiologists. A pediatrician who specializes in cardiology are Pediatric Cardiologists and physicians specialized in cardiac surgery are called Cardiac surgeons.
Heart diseases can be caused due to problems in different parts of the heart as listed below.
- Unbalanced squeezing of heart i.e. Cardiomyopathy
- Disease that affects the arteries of the heart i.e. Coronary Artery
- Faults that are structural in nature and are from birth in individuals like structure of the heart and functioning.
- The improper functioning of the valves of the heart i.e. Valvular heart disease
Out of the above-mentioned conditions, Coronary Artery disorder is the most common one. It is caused when there is an accumulation of cholesterol or plaque in the walls of the artery decreasing blood flow through it. The accumulation of plaque can be caused due to Diabetes, Obesity, High blood pressure and smoking. It leads to heart attack which is caused due to clotting of blood due to improper flow of blood across the body. The coronary heart disorder is diagnosed by symptoms like breathing problems, chest pain, nausea, and sweating.
The heart acts as a machine for pumping blood to all the parts of the body and provides oxygen for their proper functioning. However, it needs to supply blood to itself also to carry down its mechanism as it is also like any other muscle of the body. It pumps blood to itself through the valves called aorta also called the arteries. Failure of these arteries causes the heart muscle to die. Generally, it takes 10 to 15 years for cholesterol plaque to form in the arteries and cause a blockage. There are means to prevent this to happen like reduction of weight, regular exercise, and consumption of stations that are drugs used to lower cholesterol.
Patients having members of their family who had a heart disease are more prone to heart diseases in comparison to others. Primary care practitioners which include family doctor and health advisors handle patients who do not needs major hearts treatments or interventions. They also help in minimizing the blockages of arteries with regular medications and inspections.
Specialists who treat complex heart diseases are called Cardiologists. Apart from diagnosis of the diseases they can also open up narrowed up the artery and restore heart supply to the heart muscle by angioplasty. There are best cardiologists in India who are great for these treatment purpose.
